Marshals Update

As promised Rally Manager, Colin Heppenstall, announced the route for this years’ Roger Albert Clark Rally at the Chatsworth Rally Show, which, incidentally seemed to have been a great success for the event organisers as well the Roger Albert Clark Rally.

Details of the route can be found here.

Please take a moment to check the route in order to plan your participation on this years event in order to maximise your enjoyment.

Again, as is usual with the Roger Albert Clark Rally, marshals and radio marshals are invited to complete the pre-event registration form which again can be found by following this link.

As the regular marshals will know, this pre-registration process allows Joy and I to ensure that you, as far as is possible, attend the stages you have requested and that each stage is manned to the correct level in an effort to maximise stage safety.

I would ask those of you who have already offered your services to someone connected with the event, to complete and submit a pre-registration form in order that we do not over staff a particular location.

For those of you who may be registering for the first time and therefore marshalling on the rally for the first time, you are in for a treat.  I don’t think there is any better sight or sound than a Mk II Escort batting through a forest on full song, but then a two stroke Saab has a peculiar endearment whereas the Lancia Stratos is just feral in its appeal.

You are also about to become part of a very friendly team which prides itself on not only being welcoming to the competitors but also being friendly to each other person involved with the event as well as the spectators.

The organisation of the event is now kicking up a gear with the ongoing appointment of other event officials such as Stage Commanders, engaging Rescue and Recovery Units etc.

To guarantee your place at the locations you want to attend, BOOK EARLY.

The Roger Albert Clark Rally is growing in stature year on year, come and be a part of it.

Roger Albert Clark Rally 2010

April is here and who would think we would still have snow? Back in March 2009 the media was full of depressing news. O.K. things may not have changed that much but, as with 2009, 2010 does have a high spot on the horizon, the
Roger Albert Clark Rally 2010.

Colin Heppenstall and the event management team are busy planning the route and negotiating permissions for this years’ event so as yet full details are not available, however, complete event information is due to be available from the Roger Albert Clark Rally stand at the Chatsworth Rally Show on the 5th & 6th June so come along and enjoy the show and find out more about this years’ Roger Albert Clark Rally.

As in previous years’ once Joy and I have event route and time schedule we will be hard at work liaising with Stage Commanders and others to compile the marshalling requirements for the event. As usual we will be asking volunteers to pre-register their intention to assist on the event in order to ensure that the Rally continues to benefit from an exceptional marshalling force.

Please remember that it is important to pre-register, even if you have made arrangements with other event officials. By pre-registering Joy and I can put together an event wide marshalling plan which will make sure that each stage is marshalled to an acceptably safe level.

The pre-registration form will be available once the route has been finalised so that you can request which stage/location you wish to marshal on or at. As usual we will make every effort to accommodate your requests.

The Roger Albert Clark Rally has always utilised a pre-registration scheme and because of this the event has benefited from stages staffed to levels above the minimum safety requirements. Thank you to those who pre-register.

The 2009 event continued to enhance the events growing reputation. The weather conditions and the rate of attrition contributing to a series of classic battles all through the field. Roger Albert rookie Gwyndaff Evans, after all his national and international achievements, summed up his feelings about his experiences on the event and his win said simply ‘I’ll treasure this’.

The Roger Albert Clark Rally in 2009 maintained its reputation for good humoured marshals and spectators and those of you who have purchased the DVD of the 2009 event may have caught a glimpse of not one, but two, of the fabled but rarely seen Kielder Gorillas swinging from the pines,  clearly having had a successful forage for food.

Come along and be part of the 2010 event to contribute towards it continuing success and see some spectacular skill and action....... and rare species!

Thank You For All That You Do!

The dust is settling, or more appropriately, the water is draining away from the 2009 running of the Roger Albert Clark Rally and once again you have 'done the event proud'.

The weather, in parts, was pretty bad this year and yet you all stood to your tasks and provided the competitors and spectators with a service second to none. The good humour for which the event is recognised was in abundance not only in face to face encounters but also in the stage set up.

There was the phantom junction 18 of Langdale, the garden chair balancing marshal on the end of Oiliver's Mount, the PC marshal at TC10B who had trouble counting (sorry Martin), grass cutting through Shepherdshield, the very welcome bacon butties provided for us 'off the cuff' at Holehouse Hill (thank you Dave),  the vertical taping of the poles along the river in Ae (I would like to know how you managed to secure the tape thirty feet off the ground?) plus the many other tasty goodies thrust through our passenger door window as well as hundreds of ever smiling faces. Even the good natured verbal abuse was of a better quality this year.

The most impressive aspect was the total lack of complaint from all those affected by the delay on Saturday night. I know some of you had a stressful trip from Keilder to Scotland that night/early morning. Thank you for not only staying postive but ensuring you were on post for the Sunday stages.

Thank you to those involved with the movements on Hopehouse, Archy's Rigg and Samuel's Cragg. I knew the time for the re-location of crews was tight but the movements were achieved in a shorter time than I had expected, excellent.

There was upwards of 1000 marshals on the event and every one I saw was either grinning or smiling in anticipation of what was to come.

The well worn saying of 'there is no I in team' completely describes the marshaling force associated with the Roger Albert Clark Rally and by marshaling force I include everyone who worked on and therefore supported the event.

Joy and I did our best to say thank you, either with a shout, a double blip on the horn or with a wave as we passed through the stages but from the Organisers, a sincere thank you for your hard work over the past four days. Without you friendly assistance it would be impossible to run this event.

We very much hope that you will be with us for next years event and register early to get the stages you want to assist on.
Please keep checking the event website for details.

See you in 2010.
