Looking for food en-route?

The organisers have been contacted by Wendy Hopper who runs the Falstone Old School tearooms at Falstone (between Bellingham and Kielder) to let you know that they will again be open during the event with a full menu including an all-day-breakfast, lunches, snacks, afternoon teas, cakes & scones.  All meals and cakes are prepared and made on the premises.

I know that some of you found the tearoom last year and suggested that we educate a wider audience to it's existence.

Wendy would be pleased to see you during the opening hours of 10.30 to 18:00 on Sunday 16th November and premises will be open from 07:30 on Monday 17th November. Wendy also asked us to point out that she would be happy to extend these opening hours if needed so please get in touch if you would like to call in for a meal or snack at another time during the rally.

If you need any further information you can contact Wendy directly via email at falstone@rhatourism.co.uk  or 01434 240 459/ 01207 500542

Looking for accommodation near the Yorkshire stages?

The organisers understand that accommodation is still available at The Hawthornes which is located half an hour from Scarborough, York, Whitby and right on the edge of Pickering.  If you are looking for a good, reasonably priced place to stay whilst spectating or competing on the Roger Albert Clark Rally then take a look at The Hawthornes which has the added benefit of a large parking area suitable for support vehicles and trailers.  Paula and John tell us that their tariff is £30 per person, per night, double occupancy.  Single occupancy is £35 per person, per night.   There will be a single night supplement of £3, per person, on these prices.

All rooms are en-suite and two are situated on the ground floor. The price includes tea, scones and full English breakfast, using local produce.

You can contact Paula or John Appleby at:

Olivers Mount, Scarborough

Yes, as you will have seen from our “News” page and also from the announcement in Motorsport News, the Roger Albert Clark Rally is visiting the Oliver’s Mount race circuit for stages 7/8 and 11/12 of the 2008 event.

We are sure that those of you who know the area would probably have guessed that this was the case when we published outline route details in the early part of the year, but it has now been announced officially after much behind the scenes work by the organising team.

Last used for a competitive rally stage in 2000, this spectacular venue is ready to ring to the sounds of rally cars once again.

For those of you who don’t know the location, Oliver’s Mount dominates the Scarborough skyline. The roads around the mount feature a number of tight hairpin bends and fast straights. With a long sweeping right hand bend running around the monument at its summit.

   Scarborough Castle from Oliver’s Mount

From the monument at the top great views are available, weather permitting, across the two bays of Scarborough to the dramatic forest strewn horizon…you may even lucky enough to see Harwood Dale from here.

The venue is easily accessible on foot from the surrounding roads. [Full details of spectator parking and admission prices will be announced in the near future] and will give spectators great close up views of the action on Saturday 15th November. So get planning your route now!

Last used on the RAC Rally in 1985, the stage then was won by Henri Toivonen in a Lancia Delta S4.

He completed the stage of 4.6 miles, in a time of 3.34 minutes that was an average speed of 78.5 miles an hour. Remember that this was achieved in a Group B “supercar” so watch out to see who of our competitors can get near that mark or better!

To keep you up to date the organising team had a meeting at the venue on Sunday 17 August to review safety arrangements, stage layouts and ideas for spectators, so be assured that plans are in an advanced state ready for November. Let’s hope it is a clear bright day. We hope that we see lots of you there on the day, you will not be disappointed.
